North From Euston – The LNWR
The London & Birmingham Railway (L&BR) which started at Euston was the second railway in London (after the London and Greenwich line from London Bridge) but it was the first inter-city line and the first link with the north.

The first section up to Boxmoor (near Hemel Hempstead) opened in July 1837 with an extension to Tring following in October. In April 1838 the line reached Denbigh Hall near Bletchley from where a horse-drawn road service linked to Rugby and another section of line completed south from Birmingham. The whole 112 mile route was opened to traffic in September 1838.
