Just a few hundred kilometres south of Hue is the former trading port of Hoi An. It is a very well preserved example of an old Vietnamese town. Its historic canals and covered bridges have earned it UNESCO status. At night it is colourfully lit by a mix of lanterns and electric bulbs.
Hoi An has become quite a tourist centre in recent times, but it has been tastefully improved and has a relaxed atmosphere
Our visit in 2011 included a trip to the Japanese Covered Bridge and the other major sights. We also spent time touring the local market.
